Volunteering

why volunteer?

The primary purpose of the Booster Club is to organize, promote and finance athletic programs for the youth of St. Francis of Assisi parish. Funds raised throughout the year are used to subsidize the costs associated with participating in sports, and helps keep pay-to-play fees at a reasonable level.

The success of the Booster Club is due in large part to the dedicated efforts of those who coach our youth, but also due to large number of parents who volunteer in our many endeavors.

The Booster Club attempts to meet monthly to organize and plan various fund-raising events. All are welcome to attend.

We ask all families to donate a minimum amount of time throughout the year to help Boosters fulfill their mission to our children. Volunteers are needed to work the concession stand and the gate for these two tournaments. All hours count toward the school's volunteer hour requirement.

Coaching

Champions

steps to becoming a coach at sfa

  1. Register and attend the CYO Coaches Development Class
  2. Attend an approved abuse prevention/Virtus program
  3. Complete a Concussion Awareness Program
  4. Complete a fingerprint based background check.  BCII fee is $22.00.  FBI fee is $24.00. (FBI check only needed if you have not lived last 5 years in Ohio) Fingerprinting  is usually done at Virtus training, but not always.
  5. Complete the SFA Coaches Code of Conduct.

Coach selection

The Athletic Director / Booster Club President owns the final coach selection.  Coaching assignments are granted on a yearly basis and must be reconfirmed each subsequent year.  CYO coach survey results, coaching behavior observation (e.g. sportsmanship awards, technical/ejections) and parent feedback will factor into coach selection.

The Athletic Director / Booster Club President may choose an independent coach when there is a lack of qualified coaches (e.g. ability to coach against 7th Grade “A” level competition) and circumstances where a non-parent coach is in the best interest of the children sports experience and/or development.
